Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, pleaded with U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika to alter the trial date for Biden’s criminal case on gun charges. However, Judge Noreika ruled that the trial would proceed as scheduled, starting on June 3.
Lowell proposed a potential start date in July, citing pending decisions from higher courts that could impact the case. Despite Lowell’s efforts, Judge Noreika dismissed both proposals, emphasizing that the trial would move forward as originally planned.
During the hearing, Judge Noreika outlined plans for jury selection, aiming to identify 32 individuals from a pool of 250 jurors before impaneling a final jury of 14.
Lowell expressed difficulties in securing expert witnesses and obtaining details regarding evidence related to Biden’s drug use, which prosecutors intend to use in the case. Despite Lowell’s plea for a trial delay, Judge Noreika stood firm on the June 3 start date.
Biden faces charges related to possession of a gun while using narcotics and has pleaded not guilty. In addition to the Delaware case, he is also facing trial in California for tax charges.
The trial in California is scheduled to commence on June 20, with a potential delay pending an appeal before the Ninth Circuit.
Overall, the hearing showcased the legal maneuvering and challenges faced by Hunter Biden’s defense team as they prepare for the upcoming trials.
