House Judiciary Committee Chairman, Jim Jordan, has launched an investigation into the handling of former President Donald Trump’s classified documents case by Special Counsel Jack Smith. The probe was triggered by an admission from Smith’s team that some evidence seized from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate had been altered or manipulated.
In a report by Just the News on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, it was disclosed that the order of documents in some of the boxes of memos seized by the FBI had been altered or jumbled, a fact not previously disclosed before a court filing.
Jordan expressed grave concerns about the impartiality and professionalism of the Special Counsel’s office, stating that this acknowledgment raises questions about the Department’s commitment to impartial judgment.

Jordan called for a briefing on the actions being taken to investigate Smith and his team, along with requesting all documents and communications related to the manipulation of evidence in the Mar-a-Lago case. The House has set a deadline of May 20, 2024, for the DOJ to comply with these requests.
The revelation that Smith’s team misled the court by claiming the evidence remained unchanged has raised significant concerns. The FBI had seized 33 boxes from Mar-a-Lago in August 2022, leading to Trump being indicted on 40 felony charges, including violations of the Espionage Act and obstruction of justice.
The House Judiciary Committee, led by Jim Jordan, aims to ensure that justice is served and any misconduct or manipulation of evidence is thoroughly investigated. This revelation questions the integrity of the justice system, demanding transparency, accountability, and restoration of faith in the system. Smith and his team must be held accountable for any wrongdoing discovered during the investigation.
