Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., has disclosed a critical lapse in the Jan. 6 Select Committee’s investigative procedures, potentially vindicating former President Donald Trump’s earlier concerns. The committee, which concluded its activities earlier this year with inconclusive results and extensive witness testimony, is now under scrutiny for allegedly failing to preserve crucial deposition tapes, as reported by RSBN on Friday, December 1, 2023.
During an exclusive interview on Real America’s Voice with “Just the News, No Noise,” Rep. Loudermilk revealed that the Jan. 6 Committee did not retain their deposition tapes. This revelation is based on a conversation with Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., the committee chairman. Rep. Loudermilk affirmed the disappearance of videotapes, including those featuring the notorious witness Cassidy Hutchinson, stating, “That is true, I can confirm that.”
The congressman further unveiled that all video tapes of depositions were missing, a discovery made early in the investigation when someone approached him in search of information on one of the tapes. This aligns with an earlier report by Fox News Digital, highlighting Rep. Loudermilk’s challenges in accessing necessary documents for an investigation into Rep. Thompson’s chairmanship of the Jan. 6 proceedings.
In his pursuit of the missing tapes, Rep. Loudermilk penned a letter to Rep. Thompson, who confirmed that the tapes had not been preserved. Despite House rules mandating the preservation of data used in official proceedings, Rep. Thompson justified the decision not to preserve the tapes, claiming that portions had been aired during televised hearings.
“They actually aired portions of these tapes on their televised hearings, which means they had to keep those, but yet, he chose not to,” asserted Rep. Loudermilk, expressing his belief that the videos still exist somewhere and emphasizing the urgency to locate them.
This revelation echoes President Trump’s earlier accusations in August, where he asserted on Truth Social that the committee had “extinguished and destroyed all ‘evidence’ & records.” Trump labeled the committee as the “Unselect January 6th Committee of Political Hacks and Thugs,” accusing them of illegally destroying records and deeming such actions “unthinkable.”
As the controversy surrounding the Jan. 6 Committee deepens, questions emerge about the accountability and transparency of the investigative process. The failure to preserve deposition tapes raises concerns about potential gaps in the committee’s findings, prompting a call for a thorough examination of the entire investigative process.
