In a recent episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” late-night host Jimmy Kimmel took a critical stance against former President Donald Trump’s ominous prediction of an impending economic collapse if President Joe Biden is reelected in 2024, as reported by HuffPost on Friday, December 15, 2023.
Trump, who continues to dispute the outcome of the 2020 election and propagate unfounded claims of voter fraud, delivered his stark warning during a rally in Coralville, Iowa. He asserted that the nation would face a depression comparable to the Great Depression of 1929 if he does not return to the White House.
However, Kimmel, known for his comedic analysis, highlighted the irony of Trump’s forecast. On the same day as Trump’s dire prediction, the Dow Jones Industrial Average achieved a record high of 37,000 points—an indication of the stock market’s robust performance.
“Of course, the markets are not the economy, but they are a pretty good indicator of how investors feel about the future,” Kimmel remarked on his show. “And apparently, they feel pretty good about Joe Biden being president.”
Kimmel proceeded to mock Trump for his conflicting attitude towards the Dow, recalling a moment in November 2020 when Trump celebrated the index surpassing 30,000 points during his tenure.
“When it went above 30,000 in 2020 when he was president, he was patting himself on the back like a monkey eating bugs off his shoulder blades, now we’re headed toward a depression,” Kimmel quipped, showcasing a clip of Trump celebrating the milestone.
In a segment labeled “the king of the reverse jinx,” Kimmel ridiculed Trump’s tendency to state the opposite of what is true or factual. He playfully remarked, “If it’s hot, he says it’s cold. If it’s black, he says it’s white. If it’s a funeral, he sings ‘Happy Birthday.’ It’s opposites.”
Kimmel suggested that Trump’s alarming predictions may be tailored to resonate with his loyal followers, emphasizing their unwavering belief in his words regardless of evidence.
“He says this kind of stuff because the people who go to his rallies actually believe it,” Kimmel asserted. “They think he’s some kind of oracle who can see the future. He can’t even see his own feet.”
Concluding his segment, Kimmel urged viewers not to take Trump’s warnings seriously and instead focus on the positive aspects of the current administration. “So don’t worry about Trump’s warnings, America,” Kimmel reassured. “We’re doing just fine. We have a president who is competent, compassionate, and coherent. And we have a vaccine that is safe, effective, and free. And we have a late-night host who is handsome, hilarious, and humble. What more could we ask for?”
