In a recent segment on Fox News, media analyst Howard Kurtz defended former President Donald Trump’s controversial remark about Adolf Hitler’s generals. Kurtz argued that Trump was “just letting off steam” when he allegedly expressed a desire for the same level of loyalty from his generals as Hitler had from his.

The comment came to light after retired four-star General John Kelly, Trump’s former chief of staff, disclosed in a recent interview that Trump had made the remark during his presidency. Kurtz, while not questioning Kelly’s credibility, suggested that Trump’s statement was more about frustration than admiration for Hitler’s leadership.

“John Kelly is a highly respected four-star general who lost a son in Afghanistan. I don’t believe he is fabricating anything,” Kurtz stated. However, he added, “At the same time, Trump may have just been letting off steam, reflecting his desire for loyalty from his generals, and this comment wasn’t intended for public ears.”

Kurtz’s comments followed another defense of Trump’s remark by Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, who also appeared to downplay the significance of the comparison to Nazi generals. Kilmeade speculated that Trump might not have been fully aware of the historical context of his words, stating, “It would be great to have German generals that actually do what we asked them to do, maybe not fully realizing the third rail of German generals who were Nazis.”

The revelation about Trump’s Hitler comment has sparked widespread backlash, raising questions about his leadership style and judgment during his time in office. The defenses offered by Kurtz and Kilmeade have further fueled debate over the former president’s rhetoric and the implications of his admiration for authoritarian figures.
