Rachel Hodges, the mother of the affected 6-year-old, Da’Kyah, shared the harrowing experience with reporters. On Monday, May 6, she received a distressing call from the school informing her that her daughter was experiencing seizures and vomiting. Rushing to the scene, Hodges found Da’Kyah disoriented, unable to recognize even her own family members.

“She didn’t know who I was… she’s scared of me, and I’m her mom,” Hodges lamented in an interview with local station WCCO.

Da’Kyah later revealed to her mother that another child in her class had given her brightly colored pills, masquerading them as candy. The consequences were dire, with Da’Kyah experiencing symptoms ranging from bizarre behavior to hallucinations, leaving her in a state of distress.

Adding to the anguish, Hodges expressed frustration over the alleged lack of immediate medical attention from the school. Instead, she rushed Da’Kyah to the emergency room where doctors are still investigating the cause behind her symptoms.

In a heartfelt plea on social media, Hodges detailed the ordeal, accusing the school of negligence and calling for accountability. Despite her efforts, the school has remained silent, with repeated attempts for comment yielding no response as of May 8.

The situation took a more concerning turn when Hodges’s description of the incident on social media conflicted with Da’Kyah’s account to reporters. This discrepancy only adds to the confusion surrounding the case, leaving many questioning the sequence of events.

Amidst the chaos, the community has rallied behind Hodges and her daughter, offering words of support and solidarity on social media platforms. However, the road to justice remains uncertain, with authorities referring the case to Child Protective Services and promising continued cooperation.

As Da’Kyah continues to battle intermittent episodes in the hospital, Hodges’s anguish is palpable. In a poignant update on May 9, she shared her heartbreak over her daughter’s condition, highlighting the need for swift action and accountability in the face of such adversity.
