Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy, known for his standout performances on the field, made headlines for a very different reason as he turned himself in to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana. This development follows allegations of his involvement in a fatal traffic accident that left one person dead and two others injured. According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lacy was released after posting a $151,000 bail Sunday night.
The charges against Lacy include negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle, stemming from a December incident. Louisiana State Police reported that Lacy was driving a Dodge Charger and “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed,” crossing the centerline in a No-Passing Zone. This dangerous maneuver led to a chain reaction of evasive actions by other drivers, resulting in a head-on collision between two vehicles. Tragically, Herman Hall, a 78-year-old former Marine and a passenger in one of the vehicles, lost his life after the crash.
Lacy, instead of stopping to assist or call emergency services, reportedly fled the scene, driving southbound on LA Hwy 20. Investigators later identified him as the driver, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. The incident occurred just two days before Lacy declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, further complicating what could have been a pivotal moment in his career.
The young athlete’s football statistics paint a picture of a rising star in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Lacy, one of three SEC wide receivers to break the 100-target mark in 2024, recorded nine touchdown receptions for LSU but faced criticism for an uptick in dropped passes this season. Now, this promising football talent faces a legal battle that could overshadow his career achievements.
