Mark Hamill, renowned for his iconic portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, reprised the role in the sequel trilogy, notably in Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” However, Hamill openly expressed disappointment with Johnson’s interpretation of his character, citing significant creative differences.

In an interview with SensaCine in 2017, Hamill highlighted disagreements with Johnson’s vision for Skywalker. He expressed how he believed Luke Skywalker, as a Jedi, wouldn’t have given up or hidden away for years. These clashes between Johnson’s storyline and Hamill’s perception of the character caused frustration for the actor.
Hamill found it challenging to accept the direction of Skywalker’s story in “The Last Jedi.” He admitted to struggling with the portrayal, stating, “I still haven’t accepted it completely, but it’s only a movie. I hope people like it.” Later, he regretted his public comments and clarified that while creative differences are common, he recognized Johnson as the right choice for the film.
Despite his reservations, Hamill reprised the role in the subsequent film, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” continuing the saga.
