Former US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania, during their residency in the White House, had access to a sprawling living space comprising 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and six levels. Despite the conventional expectation for couples to share sleeping quarters, the Trumps opted for an unusual arrangement, as reported by Hello Magazine.
Melania’s move into the famous Pennsylvania Avenue residence was delayed by a year after her husband’s inauguration. During this time, their son Barron enrolled at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Maryland. According to Michael Wolff’s book, *Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House*, Melania chose to sleep in a different bed from her husband. Trump retreated to his own bedroom, marking the first instance since the Kennedy White House that a presidential couple maintained separate rooms.
Though Trump criticized Wolff’s book as “boring and untruthful” on Twitter, various sources, including biographer Mary Jordan, supported the claim of separate sleeping arrangements. Jordan, who interviewed White House staff and housekeepers, described their marriage as “complicated,” stating, “They’ve been together 22 years. And, by all accounts, Donald Trump is not the easiest person to be with for 22 years.”
Jordan further revealed, “I’ve interviewed many people who’ve been to dinner with them, seen them up close, worked for them, and there is a real connection there. But it has changed over time and it goes up and down. Love is complicated, and, as they say, Trump love is really complicated. They spend a shocking amount of time physically apart. And yet, the first call he often makes after a speech or a rally is to her. It’s a mystery.”
The biographer highlighted the unusual amount of time the couple spent apart, even when in the same building. Melania rarely ventured into the West Wing, preferring her solitude. She avoided activities like golf that her husband enjoyed and had her own spa. Both Melania and Donald were loners and content with their physical separation despite their enduring connection.
