Renowned former lawyer and confidant of Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, issued a stark warning, suggesting that if the former president secures a reelection in 2024, he might embark on a potential invasion of Mexico and Canada. The alarming revelation comes from Cohen, who fell out with Trump and authored the tell-all memoir “Disloyal,” as reported by Newsweek on Saturday, December 9.
Cohen, a vocal critic of the ex-president amidst his legal woes, has expressed deep concerns stemming from his 2018 conviction on campaign finance charges and lying to Congress. The charges were related to hush-money payments made in 2016 on behalf of Trump, who currently faces multiple felony counts in Manhattan over allegations of falsifying business records to conceal payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Despite these legal battles, Trump remains a dominant figure in the GOP and a frontrunner for the 2024 presidential nomination.
In a recent interview on MSNBC’s Velshi, Cohen urged Americans to carefully consider the potential consequences of Trump wielding unchecked authority. Expressing worry about Trump’s ambitions, Cohen drew parallels between the former president and international leaders, stating, “If you think Vladimir Putin, Russia, entering Ukraine is for a land grab, well, what do you think Donald is going to do if he becomes a dictator? Mexico, Canada, whatever our bordering countries are.”
Cohen emphasized the gravity of his warning, cautioning against dismissing it as hyperbole. He argued that Trump perceives himself as more than human, likening him to a god with aspirations to be a king and to dominate the world.
Despite Cohen’s assertions, Trump and his associates have consistently dismissed him as an unreliable and biased source.
The former president, during a Fox News town hall, declared he wouldn’t be a dictator “except for Day One.” When pressed for clarification, Trump explained his intent to close the border and focus on drilling but insisted that he would not act as a dictator beyond the initial day.
In response to Trump’s comments, President Joe Biden’s campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, issued a statement emphasizing the gravity of Trump’s words. She asserted that Trump’s declaration of being a dictator on day one should be taken seriously, cautioning Americans about the potential implications of his reelection.
As the 2024 presidential race takes shape, Cohen’s warning adds a layer of speculation and concern, contributing to the ongoing debate about Trump’s intentions and the consequences of a potential return to the White House.
