Nicole Kidman’s decision to join the 1995 film “Batman Forever” wasn’t just about landing a role in a blockbuster. The Oscar-winning actress recently shared a fun and personal reason behind her choice to appear in the campy superhero movie directed by Joel Schumacher.
In an interview with L’Officiel, Kidman revealed that her primary motivation for signing on was the chance to share a kiss with the iconic Batman, played by Val Kilmer. “Everyone’s like, ‘Why are you doing that?’ I’m like, ‘Because I get to kiss Batman!’” Kidman confessed.
Despite the playful nature of her response, Kidman emphasized that her decision was not solely driven by financial incentives. “The thing people don’t understand is, it’s not about the check. A lot of mainstream big blockbusters that I do are hopefully different,” she explained.
Kidman portrayed Dr. Chase Meridian, Batman’s love interest, in “Batman Forever.” While she enjoyed the role, she admitted in a 2014 interview with Yahoo Entertainment that she wished for a more substantial part. “I remember going, ‘I wish I had more of a role, though,’” she said. “It’s great being the girl in the Batman movie. But I’m an actor and you go, ‘Gosh I want more to do.’”
Her desire to take on a more action-packed role eventually came to fruition. Following her time in “Batman Forever,” Kidman ventured back into the superhero genre with a role in the 2018 film “Aquaman.” She reprised her role as Queen Atlanna in the 2023 sequel, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”
Nicole Kidman’s journey from the playful Dr. Chase Meridian to the fierce Queen Atlanna showcases her evolving career in the world of superhero cinema, blending both glamour and grit.
