Hailey Bieber, who announced in May that she is expecting her first child with husband Justin Bieber, is opening up about her personal life in a candid interview with W magazine. The model revealed that she is “not super close” with her famous family, reflecting on her current sense of independence.
In her interview, published Tuesday, Bieber, daughter of actor and producer Stephen Baldwin and niece of the Baldwin brothers—Alec, Daniel, and William—discussed her relationship with her family. “I’m not super close with my family at this point in my life because I feel like I’m very independent,” Bieber shared. “I’m my own individual now, and I’ve built my own family.”
Despite her high-profile lineage, Bieber described her childhood as “fairly normal,” acknowledging the unique aspects of her background. “Obviously, I come from the family that I come from, and I always recognized that that was different,” she said. “But when I look back on my childhood and how I grew up, I have very fond, beautiful memories.”
Addressing the public’s scrutiny of her marriage to pop star Justin Bieber, the model confronted ongoing online criticism. “People have made me feel so bad about my relationship since day one,” she said, dismissing negative comments with a sense of humor. “‘Oh, they’re falling apart.’ ‘They hate each other.’ ‘They’re getting divorced.’ It’s like people don’t want to believe that we’re happy.”
Even though she married Justin Bieber in 2018, Hailey admitted that criticism still stings. “I used to try to act like it hurts less and less. I’ve tried to think that you get used to it at a certain point, that this is what’s going to be said and this is how people are going to be,” she revealed. “But I realize that it doesn’t actually ever hurt any less.”
In a previous interview with The Sunday Times in May 2023, Bieber expressed her concerns about raising children amidst the negativity of social media. “I literally cry about this all the time,” she admitted. “It’s enough that people say things about my husband or my friends. I can’t imagine having to confront people saying things about a child.”
Bieber remains hopeful and determined as she prepares for motherhood. “We can only do the best we can to raise them,” she concluded. “As long as they feel loved and safe.”
