Recent interview with Newsmax, Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., alleged that Attorney General Merrick Garland is actively protecting President Joe Biden from scrutiny, particularly regarding an impeachment inquiry into alleged influence peddling and criminal activities involving Biden and his family.
Comer, who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, criticized Garland for obstructing the committee’s efforts by refusing to comply with subpoenas issued for audio recordings from interviews conducted by special counsel Robert Hur with Biden and his ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer.
Although transcripts from Hur’s investigation were provided, Comer and Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, insisted on obtaining the audio recordings and additional documents, leading to tensions between Congress and the Justice Department.
Comer accused Garland of appointing Hur to shield Biden, asserting that their committee had been investigating Biden’s mishandling of classified documents before Hur’s appointment. He expressed disappointment with the scope of Hur’s inquiry, particularly regarding the absence of documents related to Hunter Biden’s dealings with foreign entities, which could potentially shed light on millions of dollars transferred to the Bidens.
Comer believes that Hur’s actions were influenced by Garland’s desire to protect Biden from scrutiny, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability. He accused the Justice Department of obstructing congressional oversight.
Newsmax reached out to the Department of Justice for comment on Comer’s allegations, but no response has been received yet.
This clash between House Republicans and the Justice Department highlights the political divisions surrounding President Biden’s administration, with both sides entrenched in their pursuit of transparency and accountability in the ongoing impeachment inquiry.
