Secret Service agent assigned to protect President Joe Biden was robbed at gunpoint over the weekend in California, during Biden’s fundraising visit to Los Angeles. The incident occurred as the agent was returning from duty on Saturday night in a residential area of Tustin, approximately an hour’s drive southeast of Los Angeles.
According to Tustin Police, who are investigating the robbery, the agent was accosted by assailants, and some of the stolen items were later recovered in the vicinity. Authorities noted that a silver Infiniti FX35 was observed leaving the scene, although the suspects remain at large as of Monday.
Biden, accompanied by former President Barack Obama, attended a high-profile fundraising event in Los Angeles on Saturday, which reportedly raised over £20 million for Biden’s reelection campaign. However, the event garnered attention beyond its financial success when footage circulated on social media, alleging that Biden hesitated on stage before exiting with Obama.
One viral post on Twitter claimed, “Biden froze again last night and had to get escorted out by Obama,” generating significant online debate about Biden’s performance and prompting responses from his campaign team. Biden’s spokesperson, James Singer, provided footage showing the president engaging with the audience alongside Obama and Jimmy Kimmel before leaving the stage, dismissing claims of hesitancy as misrepresentation.
In response to manipulated videos circulating online, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denounced them as “cheap fakes” intended to mislead the public about Biden’s capabilities. She criticized such tactics as indicative of political desperation ahead of the upcoming elections.
