In a mounting controversy, Speaker Mike Johnson is facing severe backlash from ardent Trump supporters over the delayed release of footage from the January 6 insurrection, sparking a potential rift with House Republican leadership.
Former administration official and Trump ally Jeff Clark, advocating for “radical transparency,” criticized Johnson for the sluggish progress in unveiling the promised material on the third anniversary of the Capitol breach.
Contrary to Johnson’s earlier commitment to gradually disclose all available footage related to the events of January 6, Clark argued that progress has come to a standstill since the initial release.
Trump co-defendant Jeff Clark emphasized the importance of fulfilling the promise on the insurrection’s anniversary, stating, “On this, the third anniversary of January 6, it would mean a great deal to the American people if [Johnson] made good on his promise and released all of the footage from the Capitol that day. We need radical transparency. It’s been long enough.”
Former Republican candidate Laura Loomer echoed these sentiments, accusing Johnson of deception. Loomer emphasized that three years have passed since January 6, 2021, and the promised tapes are still unreleased. She stated, “[Johnson], we still don’t have the J6 tapes. You lied to the American people. Don’t make promises you have no intention of keeping.”
Loomer referred to a social media post where Johnson claimed he was keeping his promise to release all January 6 tapes to the American public.
Adding to the chorus of criticism, an “America First” musician accused Speaker Mike Johnson of deception in a Saturday post. The musician claimed, “Speaker Mike Johnson lied to us. He said he was going to release the January 6 footage. I think they are all united in not releasing the January 6 footage.”
A social media account suggested a conspiracy theory, alleging that Nancy Pelosi and Democrats/RINOs had set up innocent people at the Capitol to install “Dementia Hitler” as President. The account proposed that the day would be opportune for Mike Johnson to release additional January 6 footage, hinting at the anticipation surrounding the promised material.
The delay in the release of the footage has triggered accusations of broken promises, placing Speaker Mike Johnson in a precarious position amid increasing pressure from Trump allies demanding transparency regarding the events of January 6.
