Renowned journalist Jonathan Karl recently shared insights on MSNBC, shedding light on concerns within former President Donald Trump’s inner circle regarding his mental acuity. In his book “Front Row at the Trump Show,” Karl delves into the details of Trump’s activities leading up to January 6, 2021, reported by Inquisitr on December 3.
Karl disclosed that even staunch supporters on the far-right harbored doubts about Trump’s capacity to govern effectively. Despite contradicting statements from ex-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, sworn testimonies allegedly confirm discussions concerning Trump’s mental state.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s The Reidout, Karl underscored how former senior cabinet officials assessed Trump’s potential return to the presidency in 2025. “The people closest to him have raised alarms about what his return could entail,” Karl stated, noting a decline in support for Trump’s comeback as cabinet resignations mounted.

In his book “Betrayal,” Karl detailed the final days of Trump’s presidency, unveiling discussions between Pompeo and Mnuchin about a strategy to remove Trump from office post the January 6 uprising.
According to Karl, Mnuchin proposed employing the 25th Amendment on the evening of the riot, seeking legal analysis from Pompeo. However, the plan hit a snag the next day when Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao resigned, leading to the abandonment of the 25th Amendment proposal.
Acknowledging potential legal challenges and time constraints, Mnuchin highlighted the impracticality of the constitutional process. Karl emphasized, “It would not be quick enough and it would be subject to legal challenges,” elucidating the reasons behind discarding the plan. Nevertheless, discussions about Trump’s removal reportedly ensued post-January 6.
Despite Pompeo’s denial of discussions on the 25th Amendment, Karl stands by his sources’ reliability. Neither Mnuchin nor Pompeo agreed to validate the claims directly with Karl, despite his persistent attempts.
