A recently disclosed book, it’s been exposed that former President Donald Trump had quite the meltdown when he learned his criminal trial over hush money payments to Stormy Daniels coincided with the 2024 presidential primaries. This new revelation, detailed in the book Tired of Winning: Donald Trump and the End of the Grand Old Party, written by ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl, sheds light on Trump’s furious reaction.

As per the book excerpt, Trump was not pleased when he found out that his trial was set for March 25, 2024, right in the midst of the Republican primary season, which could hurt his chances for a second nomination. Trump, who faces 34 felony charges for falsifying business records related to the payments to Daniels, went on a profanity-laden tirade during a 30-minute video call with his attorney, Todd Blanche.
In his heated conversation, Trump berated Blanche, accusing him of failing to fight for a different trial date and alleging bias from the judge. He firmly believed that the case was a politically motivated witch hunt orchestrated by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who had indicted him earlier.
During the call, Trump lamented, That’s right in the middle of the primaries! If I lose the presidency, you’re the one to blame!
Blanche, a former federal prosecutor and white-collar defense lawyer, tried to reassure Trump that the trial date wasn’t set in stone and that his defense was strong. However, Trump remained unconvinced and continued to vent his frustration.
Adding to his grievances, Trump pointed fingers at his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who had previously pleaded guilty for arranging payments to Daniels and another woman claiming affairs with Trump. Cohen, now a vocal Trump critic cooperating with prosecutors, is expected to testify against the former president at the trial.
The book also reveals an interesting twist in Trump’s campaign strategy. Apparently, his campaign had considered selling merchandise featuring Trump’s mugshot and the slogan Still Not Tired of Winning to rally supporters and raise funds, portraying him as a victim of political persecution. Surprisingly, Trump was not amused by the move and ordered his campaign to halt the sale of these items. He demanded that his mugshot be removed from campaign materials and social media accounts.
A spokesperson for Trump strongly denied the book’s accounts, asserting that Trump and Blanche are united in fighting what they view as unlawful witch-hunts and the weaponization of the justice system. The spokesperson also stated that the trial date was mutually agreed upon by Trump, his legal team, and his campaign, and there’s no reason to be upset about it.
The trial in New York is just one of the legal challenges Trump is currently facing. These include a civil lawsuit by the New York attorney general over his business practices, a criminal investigation by the Georgia district attorney over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, and a congressional inquiry into his role in the January 6 Capitol riot.
