Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) is embroiled in controversy following a reported public altercation with her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, at a Silt, Colorado restaurant, according to a HuffPost report on Sunday.
Local authorities are actively investigating the incident that allegedly occurred on Saturday, as revealed by Mike Kite, chief of the Silt Police Department. Surveillance footage is under scrutiny, and potential witnesses are being interviewed to unravel the details of the confrontation.
Despite the intensity of the reported clash, neither Boebert nor her ex-husband faced arrest in connection with the incident.
The situation escalated when the political action committee “American Muckrakers” asserted on social media that Boebert had physically assaulted her ex-husband. Known for its efforts to remove politicians from Congress, the committee claimed that Boebert had allegedly punched her ex-husband in the face twice and continued the attack.
Boebert promptly responded to the allegations in a statement to The Washington Post, vehemently denying her ex-husband’s version of events. She expressed her intention to consult with legal counsel to address what she labeled as false claims against her.
“I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options,” Boebert stated.
In an interview with The Daily Beast on Sunday, Jayson Boebert acknowledged the conflict, admitting to making a mistake and emphasizing a desire for their children’s well-being. Despite acknowledging an overreaction on both sides, he expressed ongoing love for Lauren Boebert and suggested that silence might be the best course of action.
“We both overreacted. I only want what’s best for [the] boys, and I still love her very much. We both share some hurt deep down inside… It seems we just keep pushing each other further apart. It’s probably just best that I remain silent,” Jayson Boebert conveyed.
The couple’s history, which began when Lauren was 16 and Jayson was 22, culminated in marriage in 2005. Irreconcilable differences led to their divorce last year. The couple shares four sons and one grandson.
The Denver Post shed light on the couple’s troubled history, reporting that Lauren Boebert had accumulated at least four arrests and summons for petty crimes before her congressional career. Jayson Boebert faced legal issues in 2005, being arrested and charged with public indecency and lewd exposure. Additionally, one of their sons accused Jayson Boebert of violence towards him in 2022.
