Nikki Haley faces considerable challenges in the 2024 Republican primaries after losing both Iowa and New Hampshire to Donald Trump.

Despite these setbacks, Haley has attempted to reframe these losses as victories, rallying supporters in North Charleston, South Carolina.

In a spirited speech reported by The Associated Press on Thursday, January 25, Haley presented her second-place finish in New Hampshire as a triumph against the odds. Addressing hundreds of enthusiastic supporters in North Charleston, South Carolina, she exclaimed, “We were thrilled.”

Haley took aim at Trump’s reaction to her campaign, characterizing it as a “temper tantrum” during his primary night remarks. She observed heightened anger in Trump’s speech after the New Hampshire faceoff, noting that he appeared increasingly agitated with her progress.

Referencing Trump’s primary night remarks where he strongly criticized her in a speech more vehement than his post-Iowa victory remarks, Haley remarked, “We got out there, and we did our thing and we said what we had to say, and then Donald Trump got out there and just threw a temper tantrum.”

Despite her improved standing in New Hampshire compared to the Iowa caucuses, where she finished third, Trump’s substantial victory has raised doubts about Haley’s ongoing viability in the race.

Undeterred, Haley reiterated her commitment to the race, addressing Republican voters in the U.S. Virgin Islands before returning to South Carolina.

The South Carolina rally served a dual purpose – a homecoming for Haley and the kickoff for her campaign in a state historically influential in shaping the Republican nominee.

Despite Trump’s dominance in South Carolina since 2016, Haley remains resolute, vowing to make it a battleground against the former president.

Senator Lindsey Graham, acknowledging Trump’s strong position in South Carolina, predicted Haley’s loss in their home state, suggesting that, for practical purposes, the primary is already over.

Trump supporters made their presence known outside Haley’s rally, underscoring the challenges she faces.

Haley’s super PAC has drawn parallels to Biden’s comeback in the 2020 Democratic primaries as a source of hope, although the comparison overlooks crucial differences, such as the role of Black voters.

Mark Harris, the chief strategist, has insisted that Haley has a viable path to the GOP nomination despite Trump’s early wins.

Framing South Carolina as the next battleground, the super PAC is strategizing to appeal to conservative-leaning and Republican-leaning independents in the state’s open primary. Harris has outlined plans for a substantial advertising campaign, expressing confidence in donor support and grassroots enthusiasm.

Responding to the New Hampshire results, Harris assured that their donors are committed for the long haul in the Republican nomination.
