SELMA, AL – A heartbreaking act of violence unfolded in Selma over the weekend as 14-year-old Jamarj Acoff was fatally shot, sending shockwaves through the community. Authorities have confirmed that a 17-year-old suspect is now in custody in connection with the shooting.
The Selma Police Department responded to a distress call in the 1400 block of Weaver Street during the early hours of Saturday, February 10, at approximately 1:55 a.m. When officers arrived, they discovered Acoff suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Later that evening, Selma City Schools publicly identified the victim, expressing deep sorrow over the devastating loss. “This is a challenging time for us all as we deal with the loss,” stated Selma Interim Superintendent Darryl Aikerson.
By Saturday afternoon, authorities arrested a 17-year-old suspect, who is now being held without bond at the Perry County Detention Center. Due to the suspect’s juvenile status, law enforcement has not released their name.
