LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a heartbreaking and heroic act, ‘General Hospital’ actor Johnny Wactor was tragically shot and killed while saving his female coworker during an attempted theft in Los Angeles. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 25, when Wactor confronted armed thieves attempting to steal his catalytic converter.
A Heroic Act
Around 3:25 a.m., 37-year-old Johnny Wactor, known for his role in 164 episodes of ‘General Hospital’ from 2020 to 2022, noticed three men near his car as he left a rooftop bar with a coworker on West Pico Boulevard and South Hope Street. Initially believing his car was being towed, Wactor approached the men. One of the thieves drew a gun, and Wactor, acting swiftly, shielded his coworker with his body and was fatally shot.
Despite paramedics arriving quickly and transporting him to a nearby hospital, Wactor succumbed to his injuries.
Remembering Johnny Wactor
Wactor’s talent representative, David Shaul, confirmed the actor’s death and praised his character: “Johnny Wactor was a spectacular human being. Not just a talented actor who was committed to his craft but a real moral example to everyone who knew him. He stood for hard work, tenacity, and a never-give-up attitude. He will leave a hole in our hearts forever.”
Wactor’s younger brother, Grant, shared that Johnny was trying to protect his coworker during the confrontation. “He thought his truck was being towed and tried to talk to the men. When he realized what was happening, he put his coworker behind him. That’s when they shot him,” Grant recounted.
A Southern Gentleman
Grant emphasized that Johnny’s actions were consistent with their upbringing as “southern gentlemen.” He remarked, “We would never let a female walk to their car by herself. Johnny’s final act was a brave one, and he was always thinking of others.”
Johnny’s grandmother, Barbara, noted that he often took on part-time work as a bartender. She and Grant were unaware of which bar he was working at that evening.
Investigation Ongoing
The suspects, who fled in another car, remain unidentified. LAPD officials are continuing the investigation but have yet to release new information as of Sunday, May 26.
A Legacy of Kindness
Johnny Wactor’s death leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him. His brother Grant reflected, “Johnny was the hardest working person I’ve ever met. He was a great brother and son. Anyone he touched, he made a great impact. He was as charismatic in real life as he was on camera. And he was always genuine, through and through.”
Wactor’s bravery and selflessness are a testament to his character, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
