Trent Alexander-Arnold is currently in the final year of his contract with Liverpool, sparking rumors about his future. Liverpool supporter and UFC star Paddy Pimblett recently shared that he has heard “through the grapevine” that Alexander-Arnold may leave Anfield in 2025.
Speculation Surrounding Alexander-Arnold’s Future
The talented right-back is one of three Liverpool players facing contract uncertainty, alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. All three have played significant roles during Arne Slot’s inaugural season as manager. Alexander-Arnold has been notably linked to a potential move to Real Madrid, where he could reunite with his England teammate Jude Bellingham.
Pimblett, a lifelong Liverpool fan, expressed his hopes for Alexander-Arnold’s future at the club but admitted he has concerns. “I hope [Alexander-Arnold stays], but I’m hearing lots of things through the grapevine that he’s going,” he shared with OLBG. Although Pimblett believes that Van Dijk and Salah will remain with the club, he is less confident about Alexander-Arnold’s situation.
The Importance of Staying
Pimblett emphasized the impact that leaving Liverpool could have on Alexander-Arnold’s legacy. “If he stays, he’s going to be Liverpool captain one day; he’s going to be a Liverpool legend, remembered forever, and he’ll win more.” He pointed out that leaving on a free transfer could tarnish the defender’s reputation among fans. Pimblett referenced past players like Steve McManaman and Michael Owen, noting that their departures did not leave the best impression on supporters.
“Trent can be a club legend if he wants to; he can be remembered like Gerrard, but it’s up to him whether he wants to do that,” Pimblett added.
Potential Replacements
Should Alexander-Arnold decide to leave, Liverpool already has a promising replacement in Conor Bradley. The Northern Ireland international had a breakout season last year and has the confidence of Alexander-Arnold. “The future star—Harvey Elliott’s injured, so I’m gonna have to go with Conor,” said Alexander-Arnold, highlighting Bradley’s potential to contribute to the team.
Upcoming Matches and Player Availability
Liverpool will be counting on their soon-to-be out-of-contract stars when they face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. This match is particularly significant for Van Dijk, marking his 100th time captaining the team across all competitions.
Bradley is uncertain for the match after missing last weekend’s victory over Chelsea, and the club will also be without striker Diogo Jota and goalkeeper Alisson due to injuries. “He’s progressing well, like we expect, but it’s not a short-term recovery,” Slot said regarding Alisson’s hamstring injury, which he sustained before the international break.
