Former President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the New York judge overseeing his civil fraud trial, labeling him a “nut job” after the judge’s ruling mandated that Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, must testify in the case.
In a post on his Truth Social platform this Saturday, Trump characterized the judge as “Trump hating” and “unhinged.” He asserted, “I truly believe he is CRAZY, but certainly, at a minimum, CRAZED in his hatred of me. This case should have never started, but now must be dismissed.”
The contentious ruling came from Judge Arthur Engoron earlier this week, who decreed that Ivanka Trump must testify despite having been dropped as a defendant in the early stages of the legal proceedings. Trump’s two sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, are also slated to testify next month.
Ivanka Trump’s legal team vehemently contested the ruling, arguing that prosecutors lacked jurisdiction to subpoena her. “Ms. Trump is not a party in this action. Nor is Ms. Trump a New York resident,” her attorneys contended. “It is black-letter law that, given those two facts, Ms. Trump is beyond the jurisdiction of this Court.”
The wide-ranging fraud case alleges that Trump and his sons deliberately manipulated the value of their business assets to secure favorable loan and insurance terms. Judge Engoron had previously ruled that fraud had occurred, and the upcoming trial is intended to ascertain the extent of damages. Prosecutors are seeking a minimum of $250 million in financial penalties and advocating for a ban on the three men from engaging in business activities in New York.
The legal battle continues to captivate public attention, serving as a focal point in the ongoing scrutiny of Trump’s business practices. As the courtroom drama unfolds, the nation watches closely, awaiting the outcome of this significant case that has far-reaching implications for the former President and his family.
