As Ivanka Trump faces the prospect of testifying in her father’s civil fraud trial in New York, Donald Trump biographer Tim O’Brien has suggested that her testimony might put her in a difficult position and have serious implications for the case. The former president’s daughter had attempted to avoid taking the stand, arguing that she had already been dismissed from the case. However, Judge Arthur Engoron ruled otherwise, and she is now set to follow her father and brothers, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, in providing evidence.
In a recent interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid, O’Brien discussed the potential impact of Ivanka Trump’s testimony on the ongoing lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James against Donald Trump, his sons, and the Trump Organization. The lawsuit alleges that they overstated the value of assets to obtain loans and complete deals.
O’Brien highlighted the dynamic between Ivanka Trump and her father, noting that Donald Trump values her as an “Aryan trope” he can showcase. While her brothers were seen as less reliable, Ivanka Trump managed to maintain her father’s favor without straying too far from his expectations. O’Brien pointed out that while Ivanka has not been as fervently supportive of Trump’s MAGA movement as her brothers, her testimony could be pivotal.
“It won’t really matter what her allegiances are or how she wants to play her father’s graces. She’s going to have to figure out whether or not she wants to perjure herself in a courtroom and whether or not the fact pattern is just completely damning in her own role that Donald Trump and his sons and she have all played,” O’Brien stated. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, indicating that Ivanka Trump may be faced with the choice of either perjuring herself or acknowledging damning evidence regarding her involvement in potentially inflating or deflating Trump’s holdings for financial gain.
As the trial unfolds, all eyes will be on Ivanka Trump as she navigates the challenging terrain of the courtroom, balancing her loyalty to her father with her legal responsibilities.
