Former President Donald Trump has voiced his concerns over Vice President Kamala Harris’ economic plans, warning Americans of the potential consequences if she were to be elected. During a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on August 17, Trump strongly criticized Harris’ proposal to impose what he described as “socialist price controls” on groceries, likening it to failed communist policies from countries like Venezuela and the former Soviet Union.
Trump argued that Harris’ plan, which aims to combat inflation by cracking down on price gouging, would lead to the destruction of the U.S. economy. He claimed that after contributing to what he termed as “catastrophic inflation,” Harris now seeks to implement dangerous socialist policies that could have dire consequences for the nation.
“In her speech yesterday, Kamala went full Communist,” Trump declared to the packed crowd at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. “She wants to destroy our country. After causing catastrophic inflation, Comrade Kamala announced that she wants to institute socialist price controls.”
Harris, during a rally in North Carolina on August 16, outlined her economic agenda for her first 100 days as president, should she be elected. Among her proposals was a federal ban on price gouging, with the Federal Trade Commission set to enforce significant penalties on companies that set excessively high prices. Harris argued that these measures are necessary to protect American consumers amid rising food prices, which have surged by over 20% during the Biden-Harris administration.
Trump, however, dismissed Harris’ plan as a “communist takeover” of the United States. He warned that while the proposal might sound appealing to some voters, it was fundamentally dangerous and could lead to a severe economic downturn. “What they are doing is a communist takeover of our country,” Trump cautioned. “Her plan is very dangerous because it may sound good politically. This is Communist; this is Marxist; this is fascist.”

Trump also acknowledged a rare critical editorial from the typically left-leaning Washington Post, which condemned Harris for blaming inflation on price gouging and proposing what the publication called “populist gimmicks” instead of offering genuine solutions.
Trump’s appearance in Pennsylvania marked his seventh rally in the state this year, underscoring its importance as a key battleground in the upcoming election. Recent polls indicate a tight race between Trump and Harris for Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes, making the state a crucial focus for both campaigns.
As the 2024 election approaches, Trump’s warnings about Harris’ economic policies are likely to resonate with his base, while Harris will continue to promote her proposals as necessary measures to protect American consumers and stabilize the economy. The outcome of this debate could significantly influence the direction of the nation’s economic future.
