Former President Donald Trump has taken aim at Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech from the Democratic National Convention, focusing his critique on what he sees as an excessive use of the phrase “thank you.”
Trump, who voiced his discontent at a campaign event in Las Vegas on Friday, mocked Harris for repeating “thank you” numerous times during her address. “She mentioned ‘thank you’ about 50 times,” Trump complained. “Did you see the beginning? Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, and so on. I said, what the hell is wrong with her?”
The former president’s comments came after a high-energy response to Harris’ speech, which had been marked by a three-minute standing ovation from the audience at the United Center arena in Chicago. Trump’s critique extended beyond just the repetition of gratitude. He expressed confusion and frustration over Harris’ speech and even posted a series of reactions on social media during her address, including “Too many ‘Thank yous,’ too rapidly said, what’s going on with her?”
Trump’s response to Harris’ speech also included a flurry of other social media posts. Among them were claims that Harris had led the nation into a state of failure and fears about her potential presidency leading to global conflict. Trump also questioned if Harris’ speech was referring to him when she discussed his criminal convictions and civil jury findings.
The former president, known for his critical and often controversial responses, also used the opportunity to attack Harris’ credibility. He accused her of lying multiple times in her speech and criticized her for not providing enough specifics. “Last night, she made 26 different things that were lies. They’ll do anything to get elected,” Trump said.
Trump’s remarks were made during a campaign event at Il Toro E La Capra, a Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas, where he also promoted his “no taxes on tips” proposal aimed at winning over Nevada’s Culinary Workers Union. Despite his focus on Harris’ speech, Trump continued to spread familiar themes from his previous campaign rhetoric, including dire predictions of economic collapse and claims about his stance on abortion.
Throughout his campaign, Trump has consistently targeted his opponents with a mix of personal attacks and broad claims, often steering the conversation towards his own policies and criticisms of his rivals. In contrast, Harris’ speech was widely praised for its delivery and content, marking a significant moment in the Democratic nomination process.
As the election campaign heats up, both candidates are likely to continue highlighting their differences and leveraging their strengths to sway voters.
