Former President Donald Trump has fired back at former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, rejecting her portrayal of his post-election state and accusing her of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” The clash comes in response to Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s reported comments in Cheney’s new book, “Oath and Honor,” regarding Trump’s mood after the 2020 elections.

In the book, Cheney recounts McCarthy’s visit to Mar-a-Lago, where he allegedly voiced concern about Trump’s emotional well-being. “Trump’s not eating, so they asked me to come see him … he’s really depressed,” McCarthy reportedly told Cheney.

Trump took to Truth Social, his social media platform, to counter Cheney’s account. “Crazy Liz Cheney, who suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome at a level rarely seen before,” he wrote. “I was not depressed, I WAS ANGRY. And it was not that I was not eating, it was that I was eating too much. But that’s not why Kevin McCarthy was there.”

The former president insisted that McCarthy’s visit aimed at gaining support and fostering unity within the GOP.

Trump didn’t stop there; he criticized Cheney for her role in the House committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riots. “Liz Cheney, on the other hand, went on to lose her seat in Congress by the largest margin for a sitting Congressperson in the history of the U.S.,” he continued. “She then worked with others on the J6 Committee to delete and destroy the evidence and findings of the committee.”

This exchange underscores ongoing tensions within the Republican Party, highlighting the broader struggle for the party’s direction and identity. The conflicting accounts in Cheney’s book and Trump’s response emphasize the deep divide within the GOP, with each side offering contrasting perspectives on the aftermath of the 2020 elections and the events leading up to the Capitol riots investigation.

Their public feud adds fuel to the ongoing debate over the future of the Republican Party, as both figures play prominent roles in shaping the narrative.
