Former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to accuse Fox News of deliberately excluding a supporter of his during a recent broadcast. In a post, he claimed that three representative voters featured on the show included a Biden supporter, one for an unidentified figure dubbed “Birdbrain,” and another for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, mockingly referred to as “Ron DeSanctimonious.”
“Fox News worked hard today, and were able to find 3 representative voters to go on the show. One was for Crooked Joe, where the person found nothing mentally wrong with him. Another was for Birdbrain, and the 3rd for Ron DeSanctimonious. Considering that I’m leading Biden by 11…” Trump tweeted from his Truth Social account.
Trump’s post reflects his ongoing criticism of media outlets, especially Fox News, and his persistent belief in biased coverage against him. He argued that with his double-digit lead over Biden, Fox News must have actively sought to exclude a supporter of his.
In response, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican presidential hopeful, criticized Trump in a recent interview. Addressing Trump’s failure to fulfill immigration-related campaign promises, DeSantis expressed dissatisfaction during an interview with KCCI in Des Moines, Iowa.
“Yeah, look, I mean, that was one of the most famous campaign promises anyone’s ever made,” DeSantis responded. “Now he’s been in Iowa just in the last month saying, well, there was no legal mechanism he could get Mexico to pay. That wasn’t what he said in 2016. I was at those rallies. He was very clear.”
DeSantis emphasized that Trump’s promise to have Mexico pay for the border wall was one of the most significant campaign promises ever made. He accused Trump of shifting his stance, stating that there was no legal mechanism to make Mexico pay, contrary to his clear statements in 2016.
The Florida governor asserted that distractions and a lack of focus contributed to Trump’s failure to deliver on promises. He pointed to Trump’s early days in office, highlighting the former president’s disputes with the media and fixation on the inauguration crowd size as examples of undisciplined governance.
Disputing Trump’s recent claim that he only promised that Mexico would pay for a portion of the wall, DeSantis expressed skepticism and underscored his commitment to focus and discipline if elected.
As DeSantis positions himself as a contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, his criticism of Trump’s leadership style and policy outcomes indicates potential fractures within the GOP as candidates vie for support and differentiation in the crowded political landscape. Despite DeSantis’s efforts, Trump maintains a substantial lead in polls, according to Real Clear Politics.
