Former President Donald Trump has broken his silence following a major legal setback, launching a blistering attack against Special Counsel Jack Smith. In his latest post on Truth Social, Trump condemned Smith as “deranged” and accused him of engaging in unprecedented election interference.
The outburst comes in the wake of a new indictment against Trump in Washington, D.C., which he argues is a calculated move to derail his 2024 presidential campaign. Trump and his allies assert that this indictment is fraught with legal errors and represents a desperate attempt by the establishment to silence his voice.
The indictment challenges Trump’s actions during a rally, claiming that the event was not an official act since it was privately organized and funded. Prosecutors have also argued that Trump’s social media activity, including his posts on Twitter (now known as X), was used for personal rather than official purposes, complicating his legal situation.
The timing of the indictment has raised suspicions, with a status report due by August 30 and a conference scheduled for September 5. Trump and his supporters believe these dates are strategically chosen to disrupt his campaign as he prepares for the upcoming election.
In his Truth Social posts, Trump labeled the indictment as a “ridiculous” and “illegal” assault on democracy. He criticized Jack Smith for reviving a “dead” investigation, asserting that the new charges are as flawed as previous ones and should be dismissed. Trump also claimed that his legal team had advised him that bringing such cases right before an election is against the law, viewing this as a direct attack on the democratic process.
Trump’s response extends beyond the legal realm. He criticized the current administration for focusing on his legal battles while ignoring pressing issues such as the border crisis, inflation, and the potential threat of World War III. He also accused the Department of Justice (DOJ) of breaching its own policies by taking action that could influence the election, which begins on September 6.
Additionally, Trump referenced Mark Zuckerberg’s recent admission about suppressing information related to Hunter Biden’s laptop during the 2020 election. He claims this is evidence of election manipulation and interference by the DOJ.
Concluding his message, Trump warned that this represents the most significant attempt to undermine democracy in history. He accused the DOJ of being weaponized by his political opponents, specifically targeting Vice President Kamala Harris, and vowed that these “scams” would ultimately fail. Trump reaffirmed his commitment to winning what he describes as the most crucial election in U.S. history on November 5th and urged his supporters to continue the fight to “Make America Great Again.”
