Dramatic turn of events, former President Donald Trump has surged ahead of President Joe Biden by a notable 10 percentage points in the most recent election poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports.
According to the survey conducted from April 29 to May 1, likely U.S. voters have overwhelmingly thrown their support behind Trump, with 46 percent backing the former president. This substantial lead marks a significant improvement from April, where Trump held a six-point advantage over Biden. Conversely, President Biden’s popularity appears to be declining, with only 36 percent of likely voters supporting him in the same poll.
Furthermore, a surprising nine percent of respondents expressed their support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., underscoring the challenging landscape facing the current administration.
The dip in President Biden’s approval ratings is further emphasized by a Gallup poll, which revealed that his job approval rating for the 13th quarter of his presidency is the lowest recorded during his term, marking the worst among all presidents in modern history. These findings suggest a growing dissatisfaction with the current administration’s performance among the electorate.
Recent polling data from Morning Consult also indicates that Trump maintains an edge over Biden among Independent voters, holding a two-percentage-point lead in this crucial demographic. Additionally, an overwhelming 88 percent of Trump’s 2020 supporters have reaffirmed their commitment to vote for him once again, demonstrating unwavering loyalty within his base.
The resurgence of Donald Trump’s popularity is further evidenced by his net favorability rating, which has risen to minus 2 points, the highest since early December. This surge in support comes amidst ongoing legal battles for the former president, who faces indictments in multiple jurisdictions across the country.

Despite facing four indictments, including one related to the alleged subversion of the transfer of presidential power following the 2020 election, Trump’s popularity remains resilient. A recent survey by market research firm Leger revealed that even in the event of a guilty verdict and imprisonment, Trump’s support would only marginally decline.
With swing states consistently showing support for the former president, the electoral landscape appears to be tilting in Trump’s favor, setting the stage for a contentious and closely watched election season.
