Renowned psychologist and psychotherapist is sounding the alarm on the cognitive health of former President Donald Trump, expressing grave concerns about the severe and worsening decline in his mental faculties.
According to the doctor, Trump is deeply entrenched in cognitive decline, with his dementia progressively deteriorating by the day. The doctor warns that given the current accelerating rate of decline, it’s highly unlikely that Trump could sustain a second term without experiencing a total incapacitation.
In a recent interview with attorney Jay Kuo for his Substack newsletter, Dr. John Gartner, the founder of Duty to Warn, a coalition of mental health professionals, reiterated concerns about Trump’s mental state that have been raised since his presidency began in 2017.
Dr. Gartner highlighted four key examples indicating Trump’s progression towards full-blown dementia.
Firstly, there has been a noticeable decline in Trump’s verbal abilities since he announced his presidential candidacy in 2015. While he once spoke in polished paragraphs with a sophisticated vocabulary, Trump now exhibits a significant decline in verbal fluency, often struggling to complete sentences or words. This includes repetition, overuse of superlatives, and filler words, typical of dementia patients.
Secondly, instances of Trump’s failing memory serve as evidence of cognitive deterioration. He has mistakenly referred to individuals such as former UN ambassador Nikki Haley as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and confused President Joe Biden with former President Barack Obama during campaign speeches. Dr. Gartner dismisses suggestions that these errors were jokes or political strategies, attributing them to Trump’s declining cognitive state.
Thirdly, Trump’s disordered speech, characterized by the use of non-words in place of real words and mispronunciations, aligns with patterns observed in dementia patients. Examples include “mishuz” instead of missile and “Chrishus” instead of Christmas.
Lastly, Dr. Gartner pointed to Trump’s apparent decline in executive functioning, impacting his ability to make sound decisions and manage complex tasks. This is evidenced by erratic behavior and poor judgment, consistent with signs of cognitive impairment.
Dr. Gartner’s warning echoes the concerns of mental health professionals regarding Trump’s cognitive health. The Duty to Warn group advocates for greater public awareness and scrutiny of the former president’s mental state, emphasizing the potential consequences if Trump were to seek or attain another term in office.
