Griffin, who served as the White House director for strategic communications, expressed her shock at what she perceives as a visible decline in Trump’s mental sharpness, as reported by Salon on December 4, 2023.
Speaking to CNN on Sunday, Griffin stated, He is slowing down, noting a lack of clarity and coherence in his speech compared to the Trump she knew during her time in the administration. She highlighted the presence of complete inconsistencies in Trump’s statements, citing contradictions in his stance on health care.
For instance, Trump criticized President Joe Biden as the destroyer of American democracy and pledged to take action on Obamacare, a law he aimed to repeal and replace. However, he also claimed credit for saving Obamacare by eliminating the individual mandate, a key provision he previously opposed.
Griffin argued that these contradictions revealed a lack of a clear vision or agenda for the country, suggesting that Trump was primarily focused on attacking Biden rather than offering forward-looking solutions.
In addition, Griffin expressed concerns about Trump’s influence within the Republican Party. She pointed out that his repeated false claims about the 2020 election were damaging the party’s credibility and diminishing its chances in the 2022 midterm elections. Griffin urged Republican leaders to distance themselves from Trump, emphasizing the need for a more diverse and inclusive vision that addresses crucial issues like the economy, national security, and health care.
