Former President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Lisa Monaco, the U.S. Deputy Attorney General, accusing her of falsehoods in a recent ABC News interview. The ex-president alleges that Monaco misled the public regarding President Joe Biden’s purported lack of involvement in the Justice Department’s proceedings against Trump and his son, Hunter Biden.
In response to Monaco’s ABC News interview, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, asserting that ABC News posed “softball questions” to Monaco, as reported by Raw Story on Monday, December 25, 2023.
Trump contends that Monaco provided misleading information, particularly refuting her claim that Biden never discussed classified documents probes, the Hunter Biden investigation, or attempted to influence the Justice Department’s team. He outright dismissed Monaco’s statement asserting the non-politicization of the Justice Department, labeling it a “complete lie.”
Speculating about Monaco’s associations, Trump suggested regular communication with individuals he derogatorily referred to as “Scum,” including Andrew Weissmann, a legal analyst for MSNBC who previously worked for Robert Mueller’s team investigating Trump’s Russia contacts.
In response to Monaco’s statement that the Justice Department is not politicized, Trump commented, “Lisa Monaco’s fake answer, ‘No, and the Attorney General has been exceptionally clear on this point.’ What a complete lie.”
Trump further alleged, without presenting evidence, that Biden urged Monaco and her boss, Attorney General Merrick Garland, to expedite criminal probes against him. According to Trump, this was allegedly driven by a desire for election interference, accusing Biden of manipulating the Justice Department to act swiftly.
“It’s all about Election Interference, and Biden was pushing Garland and Monaco to act, and fast,” Trump asserted. “They think the American public, and even the Supreme Court of the United States, are stupid. No, Crooked Joe Biden has never spoken to Garland or Monaco about Hunter or ‘Trump.’ That one gets, ‘lie of the year!'”
ABC News previously reported Monaco’s remarks, emphasizing her assertion that claims of the Justice Department’s politicization are a disservice to its dedicated personnel. Monaco has not publicly responded to Trump’s specific accusations as of yet.
