In a fiery response to his disqualification from the presidential race in Colorado, former President Donald Trump lashed out at his successor, Joe Biden, labeling him an “insurrectionist” and accusing him of constitutional violations. The disqualification followed a groundbreaking decision by the state’s Supreme Court, which determined that Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021, violated Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
The court’s ruling specifically pointed to Trump’s role in inciting the violent mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election results, describing his actions as “an attack on the very foundation of our constitutional system.”
Unyielding in his refusal to concede the election and persisting in disseminating unproven claims of voter fraud, Trump expressed outrage at the court’s decision through his social media platform, Truth Social. In a strongly-worded post, he not only contested the ruling but also portrayed Biden as the “real insurrectionist,” suggesting that the president might have violated the Constitution’s insurrection clause.
“Joe Biden is the one who should be disqualified from running for president, not me,” Trump asserted, listing a litany of grievances against Biden’s administration, including allegations of weaponizing federal agencies, lax border security, and perceived failures in foreign policy.
Promising to appeal the Colorado ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court, where he anticipates a more favorable outcome given the court’s conservative majority, Trump expressed confidence that the decision would be overturned. With three justices appointed by Trump himself, the former president remains steadfast in his belief that the court will rectify what he deems an “unconstitutional and politically motivated” ruling.
“I will not let the radical left and the fake news media steal this election from me and the American people,” Trump declared. “I will fight for the truth and the rule of law.
