Byron, WY – A small Wyoming town is reeling from an unthinkable tragedy after a woman allegedly shot and killed her four young children in their home. Authorities are now piecing together the horrifying details of a crime that has shattered the close-knit community of Byron.
According to Big Horn County Sheriff Ken Blackburn, a frantic 911 call was received around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, alerting law enforcement to gunfire at a residence on the south side of Byron. When officers from the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and Lovell Police Department arrived, they made a grim discovery—multiple gunshot victims, including children under the age of 10.
Among those left devastated is Cliff Harshman, a father now facing the unimaginable loss of his four daughters. Authorities have confirmed that the suspected shooter is Tranyelle Harshman, the children’s mother, though details about the motive remain unclear.
Emergency responders worked quickly to assist the victims, rushing several individuals to North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell for treatment. However, officials have not yet released information on their conditions or confirmed the total number of casualties.
Sheriff Blackburn has called in the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to process the crime scene as authorities continue their investigation. While officials have reassured residents that there is no ongoing threat to the community, the devastating impact of the tragedy is being felt throughout the town.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected by this devastating incident,” Sheriff Blackburn said in a statement, offering his gratitude to law enforcement, medical teams, and emergency responders for their swift action.
