What began as a fight in a quiet Midland neighborhood has turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. Fifteen-year-old Jazmin Calderon has died from severe injuries she sustained during the altercation, sparking grief, outrage, and a growing demand for answers.
The violent encounter happened on May 20 along Weatherford Street in Midland, Texas. A video obtained by NewsWest 9 shows the teen collapsing behind a truck shortly after the fight. She was rushed to Midland Memorial Hospital and later transferred to a Lubbock facility due to the seriousness of her condition.
Her mother, Janelle Calderon, shared the painful details, revealing that Jazmin suffered head trauma and pelvic injuries. Fighting through emotion, she said, “No mother should ever see their child like that. It doesn’t matter how big or small — no one should go through this.”
The teen remained on life support until Sunday, when she passed away. The news broke on Tuesday, leaving the community reeling.
Midland Police are actively investigating the case. They’ve confirmed meeting with the Calderon family following Jazmin’s passing and are continuing their inquiries. NewsWest 9 has also filed a public records request in an effort to uncover more about what led to the tragic fight.
