A tragic incident in Cincinnati has led to a 77-year-old woman being charged with reckless homicide after she allegedly shot a man in the pelvic area during what she claimed was a joke. Court documents reveal that Kathleen Geiger is facing serious charges following the death of 58-year-old Arthur Osborne.
According to an affidavit filed in Hamilton County Municipal Court, Geiger and Osborne were engaged in what was described as “harmless banter.” During this exchange, Osborne reportedly asked Geiger to shoot him as a joke. Believing her firearm was unloaded, Geiger aimed at Osborne and pulled the trigger, leading to a devastating outcome.
Cincinnati police were dispatched to the scene around 7:47 PM on Sunday, where they found Osborne had sustained a gunshot wound to the groin. Despite Geiger’s attempt to provide medical assistance and her subsequent call to 911, Osborne was pronounced dead at the scene.
During Geiger’s court appearance on Monday, prosecutors emphasized that her belief that the gun was unloaded did not absolve her of responsibility. One prosecutor stated, “Everyone who possesses a firearm has a responsibility to do it responsibly. You never point a firearm at anything and pull the trigger unless you intend to destroy it.” This highlights the seriousness of handling firearms, regardless of the circumstances.
Geiger’s bond was set at $10,000, and her next court date is scheduled for October 31. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of firearm safety and the potential consequences of reckless actions.
