Authorities have identified 50-year-old Dennis Sharkey, a resident of Liberty, Missouri, as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Friday night on Interstate 29 in Platte County. The tragic incident, which unfolded shortly after 7 p.m., led to the partial closure of I-29 near Northwest 72nd Street.
Officers from the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) responded to reports of a vehicle veering off the road. Upon arrival, they found the car south of Northwest 72nd Street, resting against a barrier fence on an embankment along the outer road. Inside the vehicle, Dennis Sharkey was discovered with apparent gunshot wounds and was unresponsive.
Emergency services rushed Sharkey to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Preliminary investigations indicate that the shooting likely occurred while Sharkey was driving southbound on I-29, at or near the Northwest 72nd Street area.
