Antiques Roadshow viewers were left in shock when they discovered that their beloved presenter, Fiona Bruce, had appeared in several hilarious sitcoms. Fiona Bruce, 60, who has been part of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow since 2008, has become a cherished figure among fans for her engaging presence and expertise in antiques. Beyond this, she also fronts popular programs like Question Time, BBC News, Crimewatch, and Fake or Fortune.

However, what many fans didn’t know was her surprising foray into the world of sitcoms. Fiona made guest appearances in notable sitcoms, including The Green Green Grass in 2009, a spin-off of the legendary Only Fools and Horses. In the episode titled “One Man’s Junk,” Fiona appears at Oakham where John Challis’ character Boycie and Sue Holderness’ character Marlene attempt to make some extra money, leading to comedic consequences.

Adding to her sitcom repertoire, Fiona starred in a special edition of The Vicar of Dibley for Comic Relief. In this episode, Dawn French’s character Geraldine Granger receives an offer to become a Bishop but soon discovers she wasn’t even among the top candidates considered for the role. The episode features an ensemble cast including Emma Watson, Ruth Jones, Annette Crosbie, and Jennifer Saunders. The climax of the episode has a surprising twist where Dawn’s character punches Fiona’s character, a moment improvised shortly before filming began. Fiona recalls, “The punch wasn’t in the script, but when we rehearsed it, Dawn said, ‘Surely at this point, I’d be so cross I would punch her.’ Richard Curtis [who created the show] told her to go for it. But every time she did, it made me laugh. I couldn’t keep a straight face.”

Fiona Bruce’s journey to becoming a prominent TV presenter is equally intriguing. Born in Singapore, then a part of Malaysia, she moved to the UK for her primary education. Fiona’s first brush with fame was as a model in the teenage girls’ magazine Jackie. After graduating from Oxford University with a degree in French and Italian, she struggled to find work that suited her interests. Her big break came when she met Tim Gardam, editor of BBC’s Panorama, at a wedding. He offered her a job as a researcher on the program in 1989, which kickstarted her illustrious career in journalism and broadcasting.

Fiona quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the face of BBC News. In 2010, she was awarded the female Rear of the Year and accepted it in person, though she later reflected that her acceptance had been somewhat ‘hypocritical’. Beyond her presenting duties, Fiona is a sought-after motivational speaker and is fluent in three languages, including French and Italian.
