Former President Donald Trump broke his silence on Tuesday, launching a tirade against Republicans who defy his directives and President Joe Biden, whom he disparagingly called an “incapacitated moron.”
In a series of statements, Trump demanded that House Republicans rally to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), a bill aimed at preventing non-citizen voting despite evidence suggesting that such occurrences are exceedingly rare and current federal regulations already address the issue.
“Republicans must pass the SAVE Act, or go home and cry yourself to sleep,” Trump declared emphatically. He called out key Republican figures, urging them to take action. “Get tough RNC (Michael Whatley!), Speaker Mike Johnson, and all State and Local Republican politicians.”
According to a report by Raw Story on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the SAVE Act has been a contentious issue. Proponents argue it is necessary to preserve the integrity of American elections, while critics claim it addresses a non-existent problem and could suppress voter turnout.
Research and evidence indicate that cases of non-citizen voting are extremely rare and that existing federal regulations are adequate to prevent such occurrences.
Trump’s rhetoric extended to a veiled threat against the Justice Department, criticizing it for not taking stronger action against what he termed “crooked Democrat Politicians” and non-citizen voting.
This comes after the Supreme Court recently affirmed the president’s authority over the Justice Department, further intensifying the political stakes.
“Non-citizen Illegal Migrants are getting the right to vote, being pushed by crooked Democrat Politicians who are not being stopped by an equally dishonest Justice Department,” Trump wrote.
His statement underscores his long-standing narrative of electoral fraud and a corrupt justice system, themes he has consistently employed to rally his base.

He continued, “The Justice Department is CORRUPT and won’t do a thing to help. They have no shame! All I can say is that if I’m elected President, we will pursue Election Fraudsters at levels never seen before, and they will be sent to prison for long periods of time.”
Trump’s remarks come at a critical juncture for the Republican Party, which is grappling with internal divisions and the challenge of presenting a united front ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
His insistence on the SAVE Act and his inflammatory rhetoric reflect his strategy of doubling down on issues that resonate strongly with his base, even as they polarize the broader electorate.
The former president’s statement also reignites his ongoing feud with President Biden, whom he continuously criticizes. By calling Biden an “incapacitated moron,” Trump aims to undermine Biden’s credibility and leadership, seeking to position himself as the more capable and assertive choice for the presidency.
As Trump ramps up his rhetoric and pressures Republican lawmakers, the response within the party will be crucial in determining its direction moving forward.
