Surprising turn of events following the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, internal critics within the Democratic party have chosen to “stand down” from their previous push against President Joe Biden.
CBS correspondent Robert Costa revealed on ‘Face the Nation’ that key Democrats, previously vocal about concerns regarding Biden’s age and fitness, have now shifted gears towards party and national unity in light of the attack. Costa, citing discussions with prominent Democratic figures, noted a sudden change where critics have decided to once again rally behind Biden.
“The group that was pushing for President Joe Biden’s withdrawal over age and fitness concerns has gone silent,” Costa reported. “They believe those who had reservations about President Biden are now stepping back politically and will support him during this delicate political period.”
The discussions about Biden’s performance in recent debates against Trump quickly dissipated as news of the assassination attempt emerged, emphasizing a unified stance among Democrats during this sensitive time.

Before the incident, Biden faced calls from 20 congressional Democrats urging him to consider withdrawing from the presidential race, citing doubts about his ability to defeat Trump and serve another term effectively.
President Biden, however, has remained steadfast in his decision not to withdraw, reiterating his confidence in his capabilities and commitment to continue leading the country.
Following the attack, Trump confirmed being struck in the right ear by a bullet during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. He clarified earlier misconceptions about his injury, expressing regret over the incident and the state of security in the country.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country,” Trump stated. “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong.”
As investigations into the shooter, who is deceased, continue, both parties are now focused on healing and unity amidst heightened political tensions.
