Pop star Katy Perry is turning to Vice President Kamala Harris to revive her struggling comeback single, “Woman’s World.” With Harris’ recent announcement of her presidential bid, Perry sees a golden opportunity to breathe new life into her 2013 track.
On Monday, Perry shared a video of herself singing the lyrics, “It’s a woman’s world, and you’re lucky to be living in it,” while enjoying a cocktail. This move was widely interpreted as an endorsement of Harris’ presidential campaign, echoing her previous support for Biden and Harris in 2020.
Accompanying the video, Perry posted an Instagram story featuring a supercut of Harris’ most memorable quotes, set to the tune of “Woman’s World.” This gesture has sparked speculation about whether Harris’ campaign might benefit from a resurgence of Perry’s song.
Harris, who has become a pop culture icon thanks to viral memes and her memorable remarks, gained even more momentum on Sunday night after President Biden suspended his campaign. Charlie XCX, the first pop star to endorse Harris while promoting her new album “Brat,” helped catalyze a wave of support. XCX’s tweet, “Kamala IS brat,” was quickly embraced by Harris’ official campaign, which updated its header on X (formerly Twitter) to feature the album’s signature green.
The endorsement trend continued on TikTok, where users combined music from XCX, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and others with highlights of Harris’ speeches, according to The New York Times.
For Perry, whose song “Roar” was a notable part of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, this new push for “Woman’s World” represents a chance to reclaim her public image. Despite the critical reception of the song and controversy surrounding its producer, Dr. Luke, Perry is hopeful that Harris’ campaign will provide the boost needed to revitalize her music.
As Harris gears up for her presidential run, it remains to be seen if this strategic alignment will indeed help Perry’s song make a significant comeback or if it might backfire, echoing the fate of Clinton’s own campaign.
