In a startling revelation, the research division of the Republican National Committee has released a video montage showcasing President Joe Biden, sparking concerns about his mental decline. Instances of the president mumbling, stumbling through sentences, and appearing forgetful have been compiled, giving rise to questions about his capacity to lead, as reported by Conservative Brief on Monday, November 13, 2023.
This escalating worry about Biden’s mental state has become a central issue for voters, with some emphasizing that, despite being 80 years old, age should not be the primary concern. Dr. Carole Lieberman, a prominent physician, urges a focus on competency rather than age and contends that Biden would likely fail a cognitive test, casting doubt on his ability to fulfill presidential duties.
“I believe if President Biden undergoes a cognitive test, the results would be concerning, raising doubts about his ability to fulfill the duties of the presidency,” says Dr. Carole Lieberman.
Lieberman specifically references a mini-mental state exam, an 11-question measure assessing cognitive functions. This unofficial diagnosis aligns with the perception held by many Americans, reflected in various surveys over the past year, that Biden’s mental state is deteriorating.
A Harvard Harris Poll from August revealed a mere 32 percent of respondents believed Biden to be mentally fit, while a substantial 68 percent expressed doubts about his acuity. Despite Biden’s overall approval rating hovering around 40 percent, his mental fitness is emerging as a critical factor for undecided voters in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election.
“It’s not just about age; it’s about competency. The focus should be on whether President Biden is mentally fit to lead the nation,” adds Dr. Carole Lieberman.
Analysts suggest that Democrats must proactively address these concerns to secure a second term for the president. A June national survey conducted for NBC News indicates a significant increase in concerns about Biden’s mental and physical health since October 2020, with a notable 17-point rise. Sixty-eight percent of registered voters express moderate to major concerns, underscoring growing skepticism about his ability to fulfill the demands of the presidency.
In the same survey, Biden’s mental fitness is compared to that of former President Trump, with 55 percent expressing concerns about Trump’s capacity, a lower percentage than those expressing concerns about Biden. Polls consistently reveal a shift in public perception, indicating a decline in confidence in Biden’s mental acuity.
A separate NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll reinforces these sentiments, with a substantial 62 percent-to-36 percent majority believing Biden lacks the mental capacity to serve beyond his first term. These findings collectively underscore a pervasive skepticism among the American public regarding President Biden’s mental fitness, potentially reshaping the political landscape in the upcoming elections.
