Soul music icon Beverley Knight has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to music and charity at the Ethnicity Awards 2024. The prestigious ceremony took place in central London and was held in partnership with HSBC UK. Knight, celebrated for her incredible music career and commitment to various charitable causes, was presented with her award by Mutya Buena from the Sugababes.
Throughout her career, Knight has made significant strides in raising awareness about sickle cell disease through her support for organizations such as The Prince’s Trust and the Sickle Cell Society. Her dedication to helping those affected by the disease highlights her commitment to social causes, making her a deserving recipient of this accolade.

The Ethnicity Awards aim to honor influential figures from Black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds, celebrating their achievements in promoting diversity and inclusion. This year’s event showcased remarkable individuals, including Baroness Floella Benjamin, who received the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award. Benjamin, a member of the House of Lords, has passionately addressed issues affecting children and marginalized communities, contributing significantly to British society.
Additionally, Alice Dearing, a British Olympian, was honored as Sports Personality of the Year, recognized for being one of the first Black women to represent Great Britain in swimming at the Olympic level. Other winners included Nadia Ali, who received the Broadcaster or Host Award, and Merky Books, in collaboration with HSBC UK, for their Social Impact.
Numerous businesses and charity organizations committed to promoting equality and diversity were also recognized, including Burberry, Amazon, and Oxfam. The event, hosted by Naga Munchetty, attracted a range of celebrities, including Naughty Boy, Junaid Ahmed, and Alice Hewkin.

Sarah Garrett MBE, the founder of the Ethnicity Awards, emphasized the evening’s significance, stating, “The Ethnicity Awards 2024 was a powerful celebration of talent, resilience, and achievement. Each winner represents the incredible potential within our diverse communities, reminding us that together we can create a future rich in diversity and innovation.”
Ian Stuart, CEO of HSBC UK, echoed these sentiments, expressing pride in being a partner of the Ethnicity Awards. He highlighted the importance of addressing systemic barriers and ensuring equal opportunities for all.
