The deadly incident happened at around 10:12 a.m. on April 11, near the busy intersection of Military Trail and Glades Road. The aircraft, identified as a Cessna 310, had only just departed Boca Raton Airport, bound for Tallahassee, when it suddenly reported mechanical issues.

Shocking video footage now circulating widely on social media shows the aircraft plummeting from the sky before erupting into a fireball upon impact. Thick black smoke could be seen for miles, as emergency responders raced to the crash site.

Wreckage from the plane was scattered across Military Trail and nearby railroad tracks, and bodies were visibly present at the scene—underscoring the devastating force of the impact. According to Boca Raton Assistant Fire Chief Michael LaSalle, all three people aboard the plane were pronounced dead at the scene.

A motorist driving along Military Trail narrowly escaped further tragedy after swerving to avoid the crash. He crashed into a tree and sustained non-life-threatening injuries before being transported to a nearby hospital.

Emergency crews acted quickly to contain the blaze, but the aftermath prompted immediate lockdowns at nearby schools, businesses, and residential areas. Authorities temporarily shut down the Boca Raton Airport, while police closed several major roadways to manage the situation and allow investigators access.

Road closures included North Military Trail from Northwest 19th Street to Butts Road, and the intersection of Glades Road and Military Trail. Traffic on the Interstate 95 overpass at Glades Road came to a standstill in both directions, causing widespread delays throughout the area.

Parents of students at Boca Raton Community High School were urged not to attempt pickups due to extreme congestion, while the Palm Beach County School District issued an alert warning of restricted access to the campus.

The crash also disrupted regional train service. Tri-Rail announced a temporary suspension of service between the Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton stations, offering a bus bridge instead. Trains remain in service to the north and south of the impacted zone, but officials are asking commuters to expect delays and plan alternate routes.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken over the investigation, with a team scheduled to arrive in Boca Raton by late afternoon. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is assisting and remains in close coordination with local authorities.

The Boca Raton Airport—located just two miles from downtown and adjacent to Florida Atlantic University—is managed by the Boca Raton Airport Authority and serves general aviation traffic. Its proximity to major roadways and dense population centers underscores the seriousness of incidents like this.

Officials continue to ask residents and commuters to avoid the crash area while the investigation unfolds. Updates from the NTSB are expected soon.
