Former President Donald Trump has demanded equal treatment for Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, in the face of congressional investigations. Trump’s call, reported by The Messenger on Thursday, December 7, 2023, comes as he criticizes perceived bias in the legal system and the handling of investigations involving the Biden family.
In a social media post, Trump expressed his discontent, stating, “The Radical Left Democrats in Congress, under the influence of the Crooked Joe Biden Regime, viciously subpoenaed my COMPLETELY INNOCENT family, and deposed them for a total of 18 hours based on Russia, Russia, Russia, and other Fake News. Certainly, Hunter Biden should be treated in the same manner.”
Trump continued to criticize the Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Internal Revenue Service (IRS), accusing them of turning a blind eye to alleged crimes and corruption involving the Bidens. He emphasized that such actions shouldn’t dissuade Republicans in Congress from pursuing investigations into the Bidens, stating, “Just because the DOJ, FBI and IRS consistently turn a blind eye to Biden crimes and corruption, doesn’t mean Republicans in Congress should do the same. Our Law Enforcement is not only Weaponized, it is a dangerous, Two-Tiered System. The Bidens should honor their subpoenas by the House Oversight Committee, just as the Trump Family did!”
Trump’s remarks coincide with his anticipated return to New York City, where his civil fraud case is ongoing. In the trial, Trump’s defense team is expected to present two final witnesses, including New York University research professor Eli Bartov and Trump himself.
Against the backdrop of Trump’s comments, the House Oversight Committee, led by Committee Chair James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, is conducting an impeachment probe into President Biden. Last month, Comer issued subpoenas to Hunter and James Biden, President Biden’s brother, as part of the investigation. Comer has since issued a warning, threatening to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress if he refuses to comply with the subpoena.
The call for equal treatment in legal proceedings adds another layer to the ongoing political and legal battles between the Trump and Biden families. Trump’s assertion underscores his viewpoint on what he perceives as a biased approach by certain institutions, setting the stage for potential clashes in the complex landscape of investigations and congressional oversight.
