Anti-Trump Republican group has launched a scathing attack on prominent politicians, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and former Attorney General Bill Barr, for their continued support of former President Trump despite their previous criticisms.
As reported by The Hill on Monday, April 29, 2024, the Republican Voters Against Trump released a damning ad targeting these figures, accusing them of suffering from “partisan derangement syndrome.”
The ad, set against dramatic music, features footage of Barr, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, and McConnell. A narrator highlights their previous statements holding Trump responsible for the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, juxtaposed with their declarations of intent to vote for Trump again.
The narrator asserts that these Republicans are “suffering from ‘partisan derangement syndrome'” and suggests they are beyond redemption. The ad concludes with a call to action, urging viewers to contact a specific number to intervene.
This comes as former Attorney General Bill Barr publicly confirmed his intention to vote for the Republican ticket with Trump as the presumptive nominee, despite previously denouncing Trump’s actions regarding the Capitol attack and election claims.
Barr defended his decision by stating that he believed voting for the candidate he deemed least harmful to the country was his duty, despite his reservations about Trump’s behavior.
Similarly, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell endorsed Trump, citing Trump’s status as the presumptive GOP nominee and reiterating his commitment to support him.
New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, who initially supported Trump rival Nikki Haley in the GOP primary, has also thrown his support behind Trump as the nominee, despite previous criticisms.
The Republican Voters Against Trump group has been vocal in their opposition to Trump’s candidacy, releasing multiple ads aimed at undermining his suitability for office.
Their latest ad suggests that Trump’s alleged criminal misconduct would render him unfit for even a job at a local shopping mall, emphasizing the group’s determination to prevent Trump from reclaiming the presidency in November.
As the race between Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden intensifies, polling averages show a tight race, with Trump holding a slight edge over Biden according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ data.
