Recent interview with The New York Times, acclaimed actor Michael Keaton opened up about his career and revealed a surprising regret. Despite his successful collaborations with Tim Burton, including iconic roles in films like “Beetlejuice” and “Batman,” Keaton confessed to a lingering dissatisfaction with one particular performance.
“I love working with Tim so much, but I don’t think we ever really analyzed why we work pretty well together; we just do,” Keaton said. Reflecting on his role in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s “Dumbo,” Keaton admitted, “I think I let him down on one movie, but that’s just me, and it bugs me to this day. I was clueless on ‘Dumbo.’ I sucked in ‘Dumbo.’”
In contrast, Burton, who also participated in the interview, disagreed with Keaton’s self-assessment. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about, but whatever,” Burton responded, suggesting he did not share Keaton’s view of the film.
In “Dumbo,” Keaton portrayed V.A. Vandevere, the amusement park owner in the 2019 film. Despite Keaton’s self-criticism, the film was part of a larger successful partnership between the actor and the director.
Keaton and Burton are set to reunite for their next project, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which is slated for release on September 6. Fans can look forward to seeing the duo back in action, alongside returning cast members Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara.
