Fiery critique, Trump campaign vice presidential candidate Senator JD Vance has sharply condemned the Biden administration for a controversial plea deal involving key terrorists from the September 11, 2001, attacks. The deal, negotiated by the Department of Defense (DoD), has sparked significant outrage and frustration.

Reported by Fox News on August 1, 2024, Vance’s comments reflect growing discontent with how the case against Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin ‘Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi is being handled. These terrorists, currently detained at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, are awaiting trial for their roles in the horrific attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 American lives.

Vance, a former Marine who served after 9/11, expressed his dismay: “Just today, I heard that the Biden-Harris Department of Justice cut a deal with al-Qaeda terrorist Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to avoid the death penalty. It was reported today.” His remarks underscore a broader sentiment among veterans and 9/11 survivors who see the plea deal as a betrayal of the sacrifices made by those who fought in the aftermath of the attacks.

The plea deal, announced by Susan Escallier, the Convening Authority for Military Commissions, involves pretrial agreements with the three terror suspects. While the full details of the deal remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that the suspects will avoid the death penalty. This decision has ignited controversy and criticism, particularly from those who view it as a grave injustice.

Vance did not mince words in his criticism of the Biden-Harris administration, accusing it of failing to uphold justice. “Now, just think about the point that we’ve gotten to. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have weaponized the Department of Justice to go after their political opponents, but they’re cutting a sweetheart deal with 9/11 terrorists,” Vance asserted. He stressed the need for leadership that “kills terrorists, not negotiates with them.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson also voiced his condemnation of the plea deal, calling it “unthinkable.” In a post on X, Johnson reflected on the impact of the 9/11 attacks and expressed his disappointment. “23 years ago, America watched in horror as thousands of innocent Americans died,” Johnson wrote. He lamented that the plea deal is a “slap in the face of those families” who have been waiting for justice.

The terrorists involved in this plea deal are accused of providing crucial support to the 19 hijackers responsible for the September 11 attacks, which targeted the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The decision to spare the defendants from the death penalty has fueled backlash from victims’ families and the public, who view it as an affront to the memory of those who lost their lives and the ongoing quest for justice.

The plea deal has further polarized opinions on the handling of terrorism cases and raises broader questions about U.S. national security and justice system policies.
