Mariah Carey has revealed her desire to finally release the secret grunge album she recorded back in 1995. This project, known as “Someone’s Ugly Daughter,” was created during the same period she was working on her iconic record “Daydream.” Despite nearly three decades passing, fans have yet to hear any music from this intriguing project.
In a recent interview on the Las Culturistas podcast with hosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, Carey expressed her frustration about the album remaining unreleased. “I’m so mad I haven’t done that yet,” she said, indicating her lingering passion for the project.
When discussing potential platforms for the album’s release, Rogers humorously suggested she could drop it independently through GarageBand. Carey responded enthusiastically, saying, “I could do that. It’s a good album. OK, you will hear it. I was getting life from that, seriously. It was jokes, as well. They’re everlasting.”
In her 2020 memoir, Carey reminisced about the creative process behind “Someone’s Ugly Daughter.” She described bringing her alt-rock songs to the band and humming silly guitar riffs that they would quickly pick up and record. “It was irreverent, raw, and urgent, and the band got into it. I actually started to love some of the songs. I would fully commit to my character,” she noted, highlighting her deep connection to the music.
As fans eagerly await the potential release of this long-hidden gem, Mariah Carey continues to demonstrate her versatility as an artist. The prospect of her grunge album becoming available adds another exciting layer to her already impressive discography. Keep an eye out for more updates as Carey hints that you just might hear this album soon!
